Members of ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥'s The Pow Wow win awards
Mass communications students at the University of Louisiana at Monroe earned several honors recently at the Southeast Journalism Conference hosted by Georgia College and State University.
Michael Cossey, a junior from Monticello, Ark., won honorable mention in layout and design and second place in submitted design work. Cynthia Jackson, a West Monroe sophomore, took third place in story rewrites and Jacob Power, an Alexandria junior, took second in column writing. Power's work will be a feature of The Atlanta Journal Constitution.
The students, all members of The Pow Wow, ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥'s student newspaper, competed against approximately 175 students in submitted work and on-site journalism contests. The students also attended seminars on lead writing, ethics, digital photography, leadership and editorial writing.
The SEJC is a consortium of mass communications departments with the purpose of offering professional development to students.
