蜜桔直播 Gerontology Program receives grant

The Association for Gerontology in Higher Education, Generations Together at the University of Pittsburgh and the Corporation for National Service Learning have announced that the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Gerontology Program was among those selected to receive their 2003 Learn and Serve Award Grant. Dr. Dale Welch, Dr. Chris Johnson and Mr. Jay Bulot in the 蜜桔直播 Gerontology master's degree program will participate in the grant.

Service learning as defined by the Corporation for National Service is an innovative method of teaching and learning that integrates community service activities into academic curricula. Starting in the Spring 2003 semester, 蜜桔直播's award-winning Gerontology Department, which was designated by Governor Foster as an "Area of Excellence" among academic programs in Louisiana, will be implementing these ideas into two sections of an undergraduate course called "Perspectives on Aging" (Gero 226) taught by Dr. Chris Johnson and Mr. Jay Bulot.

"We are going to get service providers in our area to have our students from this course help work with senior adults. Its going to be a great thing for our students to get involved in this community," said Dr. Johnson. "Its an honor for our program; its good news. It's going to be a good boost."
