蜜桔直播 Toxicology Students Shine at Annual Conference

Students from the University of Louisiana at Monroe recently traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah to compete in the 42nd Annual Conference of the Society of Toxicology on March 9-13, 2003. 蜜桔直播 predoctoral students competed with more than 225 other graduate students from around the world. Students from 蜜桔直播 made their mark during this international meeting by winning very prominent rewards.

Sachin Devi, a senior Ph.D. student placed first in his competition for the Society of Toxicology's Graduate Fellowship Award, which includes $16,000 and a plaque. This is the third year in a row that a 蜜桔直播 student has won this award. Devi also received the Colgate-Palmolive Student Research Training in Alternative Methods award valued at $2500. This was also a first place award that will enable Devi to travel this summer to conduct research.

Pallavi B. Limaye, also a senior Ph.D. student, received the first place award for Mechanisms Specialty section for her manuscript entitled "Caplain Released From Dying Hepatocytes Mediates Progression of Acute Liver Injury Induced by Model Hepatocytes." Limaye was awarded $500 for this honor. Limaye also received the Colgate Palmolive Student Research Training Award.

Vishal Vaidya, another senior Ph.D. student, received the 4th place award from the Mechanisms Specialty Section for his paper entitled, " Tissue Repair: A Key to Survival Following Nephrotoxic Challenge."

Sharmilee Sawant received the first place Best Student Manuscript Award in the Comparative and Veterinary Specialty Section valued at $500. This award was based on Sawant's original research work conducted at 蜜桔直播. Sawabt was also awarded $500 for the Graduate Student Travel Award for the Food Safety Specialty Section.

Senior Ph.D. student Udayan Apte received the third place Best Paper Award, Comparative Veterinary Section based on a detailed summary of his research accomplishments.

The first place award from Occupational Safety and Health, valued at $500, went to Dr. Satheesh Anand, second year Post-Doctoral Fellow.

Other awards brought home by 蜜桔直播 students were the Risk Assessment Specialty Section Award, which went to Ankur Dnyanmote, and the Young Investor Travel Award from the South Central Chapter of SOT, which went to Midhun Korrapati. Both of these awards were valued at $500.

It is extremely rare that multiple students from the same program are placed first in many categories. This not only speaks for the high quality competitive Toxicology Training Program at 蜜桔直播 nationally and internationally, but also speaks for the standard- bearing and benchmark-making quality of 蜜桔直播 students.

Approximately 5500 scientists from around the world attended the 42nd Annual Conference of SOT. This is the largest annual meeting of leading scientists working in various areas of toxicological sciences.
