ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Band Department Hosts Upcoming Events

The ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Band Department, in conjunction with the city of Monroe, the Monroe / West Monroe Convention, the Visitors Bureau, and the Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA), will host the LMEA State Instrumental Music Festival. The event, to be held next week at the Monroe Civic Center, will consist of performances by 92 of the state's outstanding elementary, middle school, and high school bands and orchestras. The event will be free of charge.

As a joint project between LMEA, ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥, and Monroe / West Monroe Arts in the Park, the ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Jazz Ensemble will feature Grammy nominated jazz trombonist Bill Watrous in a concert at the Monroe Civic Center on Thursday, April 29, at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $5 advanced purchase, and $4 for students. In addition, the ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Wind Ensemble will perform as part of Arts in the Park on Friday night, April 30, at 6:00 pm in Kiroli Park in West Monroe. The only charge is a 50 cent park entrance fee. The special guest artist for this performance is Guy G. Gauthreaux. Dr. Gauthreaux received his bachelor's degree from ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ and later taught at Wossman High School. Gauthreaux is principal timpanist with the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C. and is widely sought-after as a percussion clinician, lecturer, and soloist.
