Math Department Holds Event for High School Females

The Sonia Kovalevski High School Day in Mathematics at ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ is happening tomorrow, Friday, November 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the third floor of the Airway Sciences Building.

Dr. Annela Kelly of the Mathematics faculty has obtained a grant from the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) to host this event at no cost to participating female high school students. Every high school participant will receive a book and free lunch sponsored by AWM.

The morning will include discussion of Sonia Kovalevski's mathematical career and current trends in mathematics. The afternoon will focus on career choices for mathematics students. ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ is the only northeast Louisiana campus participating in AWM's nation wide initiative to encourage young females with interests in science and mathematics.
