Math Department Holds Event for High School Females
The Sonia Kovalevski High School Day in Mathematics at ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥
is happening tomorrow, Friday, November 12, from 9 a.m. to 2
p.m. on the third floor of the Airway Sciences Building.
Dr. Annela Kelly of the Mathematics faculty has obtained a grant
from the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) to host this
event at no cost to participating female high school students.
Every high school participant will receive a book and free lunch
sponsored by AWM.
The morning will include discussion of Sonia Kovalevski's mathematical
career and current trends in mathematics. The afternoon will
focus on career choices for mathematics students. ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ is the
only northeast Louisiana campus participating in AWM's nation
wide initiative to encourage young females with interests in
science and mathematics.
