Mayer Wins Title in 53rd Annual Miss ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Scholarship Pageant

Michelle Mayer, doctor of pharmacy senior from Monroe, was crowned Miss ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Oct. 20 in Brown Auditorium. She also won the interview and swimsuit portion of the pageant.

Other winners include Katherine Putnam, first runner up; Natalie DeMoss, second runner up; Aymee Bonilla, third runner up; and Erica Durr, fourth runner up.

Heather Davis was named the Advertisement Sales Winner. The People's Choice Award went to Putnam, who also won the evening-gown portion of the event. DeMoss was the talent winner. Bonilla was named Miss Congeniality.

As a result of winning Miss ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥, Mayer will receive a tuition scholarship, private on-campus apartment and bookstore award. Meyer also received a one-year meal plan from the Campus Activities Board and a $4000 cash award given by the ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Student Government Association. CAB will award a two-semester tuition scholarship to Putnam and a one-semester tuition scholarship to DeMoss. SGA will award a $1,000 scholarship to Bonilla and a $750 scholarship to Durr.

An award of $250 will also be given to the advertisement sales winner, the people's choice award, which is voted on by the student body, and the miss congeniality award, voted on by the contestants.

There were nine contestants this year. Katherine Putnam is a vocal performance freshman from Oak Grove; Michelle Mayer is a doctor of pharmacy senior from Monroe; Crista Bush is a psychology freshman from Vidalia; Aymee Bonilla is a doctor of pharmacy junior from Monroe; Natalie DeMoss is a nursing junior from Monroe; Erica Durr is a toxicology freshman from Marthaville; Nicolle Sims is an atmospheric science sophomore from Monroe; Heather Davis is a biology freshman from Spring, Texas; and Brittney Parker is a business management senior from West Monroe.

The Miss ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ pageant is an official preliminary for the Miss Louisiana Pageant. Miss ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ 2006 will reign from spring 2006 to fall 2006.
