ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ SGA & CAB Sponsor Spirit Day Fundraiser

This Friday, September 30, the ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Student Government Association (SGA) and the Campus Activities Board (CAB) will sponsor a Disaster Dollars for Students Spirit Day fundraiser for ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ students affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The groups are asking that everyone donate at least one dollar to the Students First Katrina/Rita Relief Fund. Donations can be made in the Quad on campus.

National honor society Alpha Lambda Delta is donating the first $1,000 to the fund. The check will be presented on Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the Quad.

"With the help of every student, staff, and faculty member giving $1, we can quickly raise $10,000 for ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ students affected by the tragedies," Dr. Martha Upshaw, SGA advisor, said.

Since Friday is also Spirit Day, the first 500 students wearing maroon and gold (from 9 a.m. until noon) will receive free student planners, cups and pencils courtesy of the SGA.

The tradition of Spirit Day being on every Friday throughout the fall semester began last year as a way to build and celebrate the culture of support for ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥.
"We got such a great response," Amy Weems, Interim Assistant Dean of Student Life and Leadership, said. "Everyone trained themselves to wear maroon and gold on Friday."
