Recent Pow Wow Workshop Offers Professional Advice to Student Attendees

The Pow Wow 2005-2006 staff workshop occurred on September 17 in the ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Department of Communication's Resource Center in Stubbs Hall.

Guest speakers were Tae Kim, professor in the department, and Lunzeta Cretien, reporter for The News-Star. Eight student journalists attended.

Cretien spoke on the importance of the interview process, focusing on both face-to-face and e-mail interviewing techniques.

Kim discussed the use of sources in news stories and placement of
direct quotations to make news stories more interesting.

A movie on journalism, "Shattered Glass," was viewed and discussed from an ethical perspective.

Heather Amison, Monroe mass communications senior, is editor in chief of The Pow Wow. Co-managing editors are Isaac Henderson, Monroe mass communications senior, and Stephanie Williams, New Orleans kinesiology senior.

Pow Wow adviser Jarrett Reeves coordinated the program.
