Professor appointed state chairman for national band association
Derle Long, an associate professor of music and director of bands at ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥, has been appointed Louisiana State Chairman for the College Band Directors National Association.
Its members are devoted to the teaching, performance, study and cultivation of music, with particular focus on the wind band medium.
As chairman, he will serve as a resource to all college band programs in the state and will coordinate the Louisiana Intercollegiate Honor Band, which will meet on Louisiana State University’s campus in January 2007. He will represent Louisiana at the National CBDNA convention in Ann Arbor, Mich. in March.
He also continues to serve as college band coordinator for the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic on New Year’s Day in Dallas, Texas. This is his 15th year with the Cotton Bowl and has afforded him the opportunity to work with some of the finest college marching bands in the United States. The 2007 Cotton Bowl Classic will be televised on New Year’s Day by the Fox Sports Network.
