Warhawks items selling like hot cakes
The University of Louisiana at Monroe continued a quick pace of new Warhawks merchandise sales Tuesday after the first T-shirts were unveiled Monday afternoon with the new logos.
The ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Bookstore sold about $5,000 in merchandise Tuesday after selling about $3,000 of Warhawks gear in less than two hours Monday afternoon, said Kevin Stuart, ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ marketing director.
"It's really moving quite well," Stuart said Tuesday afternoon. "If there's a surprise, it's that people are snapping up the old Indians merchandise. People are realizing it's a collector's item." The bookstore is currently selling a variety of T-shirts and polo shirts with a mix of different logo options, in addition to blankets and coolers. There are plenty more merchandise on the way in coming weeks since some items take longer to make, Stuart said.
Also, some decisions like the exact logo design on the new football helmet have not yet been determined, he said.
The most popular item sold thus far is the standard T-shirt with the full, primary hawk logo, he said.
Champs Sports is the first non-ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ retailer to receive some of the new merchandise.
The store currently only has one shirt on sale though, which is a gray T-shirt with the primary logo, said Nicole Gilbert, assistant manager.
More items are expected to arrive Thursday, and several people are already asking for hats and polo shirts, Gilbert said.
Although the ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Web site also touts Sports & Co. of Monroe as having new merchandise, the sporting goods store will not receive any shipments before Monday, store manager David Ainsworth said.
But that is not keeping people from asking for the new gear, he said.
"We are very eager to get it in," Ainsworth said.
