۽ֱ Small Business Development Center to offer workshops
The ۽ֱ Small Business Development Center will offer a free Evaluating and Financing Your Business Idea workshop Thursday, Nov. 16 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Delhi City Hall Council Chamber.
This two-hour workshop is recommended for individuals who are interested in determining the feasibility of their idea, are planning to start or have recently started a small business, want to expand their business, are interested in obtaining a small business loan, or want to learn more about planning and management. Topics of discussion include business feasibility, business planning, business description, marketing strategy development, financial planning, loan process/applications, and sources of funds for small business start-up and expansion.
The center will offer a free “Tax Issues for Construction/Residential Contractors” workshop Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 8 a.m. – noon at the ۽ֱ Administration Building, room 2-105.
This workshop will cover general record keeping, abusive schemes and accounting methods. Detailed discussions include Office in your Home; Travel and Entertainment; Employment Taxes; Independent Contractor vs. Employee; and Depreciation. Attendees may learn about the 2005 changes, what’s still applicable and what is pending for 2006.
The workshop is a partnership between the SBDC, the IRS and the Louisiana Society of Enrolled Agents (LSEA). The workshop will be presented by a member of LSEA who has volunteered his/her time and is enrolled to practice before the IRS.
The ۽ֱ SBDC will offer a workshop entitled “The Business of Being a Female Entrepreneur” Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. – noon at the West Monroe Convention Center.
This workshop will explore the interpersonal and social barriers faced by female entrepreneurs, approaches for dealing with those barriers, and the rewards of being female entrepreneurs.
The keynote address will explore the social environmental structural barriers faced by females as they deal with the prescribed, perceived and enacted roles for women in American society while pursuing their entrepreneurial desires and goals.
The speaker will be Pamela Higgins Saulsberry, a professor of social work at ۽ֱ. This workshop is co-sponsored by the Northeast Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of the Women Business Owners (NAWBO).
The only cost associated is an optional $12 fee per person for lunch.
The ۽ֱ SBDC provides quality, no-fee, confidential, one-on-one counseling services to potential and existing business owners; provides no-fee management and technical assistance services by appointment; conducts workshops and seminars to help small business people become better managers and to keep them informed about current events and changing trends in today’s business world; and maintains a resource library which includes statistical data, census figures, SBA publications, and a variety of other information.
