Louisiana Endowment for Humanities funds professor’s program
The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities is funding a six-week program hosted by ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥â€™s Marshall Scott Legan, a history professor and the interim department head of history and government.
The RELIC (Readings in Literature and Culture) program, "Louisiana Characters: Biographies of the Bayou State," will begin on Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Morehouse Public Library in Bastrop.
Legan will discuss Jean Lafitte, Kate Chopin, Louis Armstrong, Huey Long, and other prominent figures in Louisiana’s history.
Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities has recognized Legan at the Governor's Mansion for his long service as a humanist in presenting a variety of different RELIC reading programs throughout northeast Louisiana.
He has been named a Fellow of the Louisiana Historical Association, which he served as president, and a member of the LHA Board of Directors. He is called upon frequently by the Louisiana History (LHA publication) editor to edit manuscripts and to review books. He has also served two terms at President of the North Louisiana Historical Association and remains a member of the NLHA board.
