UL System Presidents and Faculty Join Student Leaders in Opposition to Concealed Weapons on Campus
The University of Louisiana System Council of Presidents and Faculty Advisory Council both passed resolutions Friday in opposition to House Bill 199, proposed legislation that would allow concealed weapons to be carried on college and university campuses. The resolutions follow the lead of the statewide Council of Student Body Presidents who passed a similar resolution this week.
The university presidents, including ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ President James Cofer, presented their resolution to the Board and to the campus student government association presidents, including ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ SGA President Brady Middleton.
"The Faculty Advisory Council believes that the events the bill is designed to curtail are extremely rare and that, if passed, has the potential to increase campus violence," said Mary Sue Ply, Chair of the UL System Faculty Advisory Council and Southeastern Louisiana University Faculty Senate representative.
