Steckline to judge area Shakespeare competition Feb. 24
Dr. C. Turner Steckline, ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ associate professor of communication, will judge the annual local Shakespeare Competition for the English-Speaking Union Sunday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Monroe.
This is Steckline’s second consecutive (third total) year as contest judge. The competition occurs among secondary school students, who will compete for Steckline and two other judges. The winner will compete nationally.
The competition is reportedly a curriculum-based program designed to help high school students develop their language skills and dramatic talents through the memorization and interpretation of a monologue and sonnet. For teachers, the program is a tool to encourage and enhance the study of Shakespeare.
