۽ֱ to host events March 3 – 6 during National Collegiate Health and Wellness Week
۽ֱ Student Health Services will host free events March 3 – 6 in recognition of National Collegiate Health and Wellness Week, March 3 – 10. ۽ֱ students are especially invited to join in, have fun, and learn how to have a healthier student experience. The public is welcome to attend.
Participating co-sponsors of this event are the ۽ֱ School of Nursing, University Police, ۽ֱ Counseling Center, ۽ֱ Dental Hygiene Department, ۽ֱ Department of Communicative Disorders, ۽ֱ Occupational Therapy Department, Louisiana Office of Public Health- STD Program, ۽ֱ Aquatic Services, and Wal-Mart Vision Center.
The week begins with “Sexual Awareness – Recognize Your Risks” Monday, March 3 at 6 p.m. in the Student Center, room 161. This is a joint presentation by Student Health Services and the University Police on recognizing risks associated with sexual awareness, and its relationship to sexual assault. Learn what you can do to decrease your risk of a sexual assault. Refreshments will be available.
Tuesday, March 4’s opportunity is “Alcohol 411” at 6 p.m. in the Student Center, room 161. This is a joint presentation by Student Health Services and the Counseling Center on the physical and mental effects of alcohol usage. Learn what you can do to minimize these effects and have a healthier, more productive student experience. Refreshments will be available.
“Getting to Know Your Teeth” will be Wednesday, March 5 at 6 p.m. in the Student Center, room 161. This is a presentation by the ۽ֱ Dental Hygiene Department, and is sponsored by Student Health Services, on the proper care of your teeth, potential problems and local resources available to help you maintain a healthy smile. Refreshments will be available.
The week’s events will culminate in the Health Fair Thursday, March 6 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Student Union Building Commuter Lounge. Participants may visit all of the health information booths. Free hearing and vision screening will be available. Other information booths will include backpack safety, “Healthy Mouths,” “Safe Sex,” “Healthy Hearts,” and one on sun and water safety.
