Jones’ work on theoretical physics published in professional journal
Dr. Preston Jones, University of Louisiana Monroe assistant professor of physics, published a new paper on theoretical physics describing the electronic structure of quantum dots.
The paper, titled “Correlation studies in weakly confining quantum dot potentials,” was published in September by way of the “International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, Volume 108.”
Jones’ work is the result of research collaboration with Peter Kimani and Peter Winkler of the University of Nevada. It applies the Hartree-Fock and Green function methods of quantum many-body theory to describe the electron energies of quantum dots, which are the foundation of much of the current research in nanotechnology.
Kimani and Winkler also presented these results at the 2008 Sanibel Symposium, concerning quantum chemistry, solid-state physics and quantum biology.
