Michael Warrick sculpture exhibition to appear at ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Sept. 22–Oct. 16

Little Rock sculptor Michael Warrick will display his unique sculptural bronze forms along with photographs, artifacts and drawings that explore natural textures and shapes in an upcoming exhibition at ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥â€™s Bry Art Gallery, beginning Monday, Sept. 22, and continuing until Thursday, Oct. 16.

On Sept. 22, at 11 a.m., Warrick will present a gallery talk on the work exhibited. It will be an informative and lively discussion of influences, travels, nature, and how each has affected this body of work.

Warrick is currently a professor of art and coordinator of the Sculpture and Metal Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He has a distinguished national exhibition record that spans more than three decades with 40 solo exhibitions and 150 national competitions. Included in his impressive resume are numerous regional and national grants and fellowships, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship through the Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest, Ill., a Southeastern College Art Conference Grant, the Pollack-Krazner Foundation Grant, and many others.

His work as a lecturer or panelist has taken him to 92 institutions across the nation, and his outdoor sculpture has been displayed in 15 states – including Louisiana, were he installed a work at the ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Sculpture Garden in the 2006-07 season.

When asked about his work, Warrick stated, “This body of work represents a sampling of my exploration of organically influenced imagery. As part of the exhibition, I've included natural artifacts in two display cases and a series of photographs. The natural artifacts, such as milkweed, buckeye, coral, gypsum, shell, skute (alligator backbone), ginkgo leaf, wood with fungus, vines, and seeds of various types, are items I have picked up on my travels.

“The six photographs of stone, fungus, moss, and numerous other plant life have been documented on hiking trips in a variety of state and national parks. These artifacts, and photographs have been influential in the development of my drawing and sculptural images over the past 12 years.â€

Warrick recently attended the Ninth International Sculpture Symposium in Changchun, China, from July 23-Sept. 9. During his stay, he created two monumental works for the city. The first is a bust titled "Visionary" that is six feet by six feet by nine feet. It will be placed at the Changchun International Sister City Sculpture Park at the Changchun Government Building. The second work is a large, three-part granite composition that is nine feet by four feet by 15 feet and is titled "Conversation." It will be placed at the Changchun International Sculpture Park.

The Bry Art Gallery is open from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 8 a.m. - noon on Fridays.
