First-year students to join in Ace’s Amazing Race Aug. 31 – Sept. 2
University of Louisiana at Monroe first-year students will experience a new way to know and love their campus, thanks to Ace’s Amazing Race August 31-Sept. 2. The fun begins at 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31, in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
The race marks the second year of this campus event, which is modeled after the CBS television show, "The Amazing Race." Approximately 12 sections, or 400 students, of University Seminar 101 will participate each day.
The event will build school spirit and help new students quickly adapt to life at ۽ֱ, according to Coordinator of First Year Experience Mary Elizabeth Sewell.
“The purpose of this event is to get students excited about ۽ֱ, to help them become familiar with locations on campus, to build a sense of community, and to promote Warhawk pride,” she said.
Each night concludes with cake and refreshments for students and the winning teams receiving a special prize. T-shirts will also be available to students for $10 at the end of each race day.
Several groups on campus will be involved, including Greek Life, Athletics, and Recruitment and Admissions.
