۽ֱ welcomes former ASHA president to campus March 13

۽ֱ’s College of Health Sciences and the Department of Speech-Language Pathology will welcome Dr. Kate Gottfred, 2008 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association president, March 13. She is the featured speaker for ۽ֱ's 21st Annual SLP Spring Conference in the University Conference Center, located on the seventh floor of the library.

“We are honored to be hosting such a renowned figure as Dr. Gottfred,” said Dr. Johanna Boult, ۽ֱ SLP Interim Department Head. “The work of her non-profit organization, LEAP Learning Systems, is unmatched and stands as a testament to the positive effect that cross-disciplinary collaboration has on school success.”

Under Gottfred’s leadership, LLS has developed and implemented a system of support for language and literacy skill development for underserved children in the Chicago schools. Gottfred will be joined by co-presenter Mr. Michael Levesque, the executive director of LLS.

The presentation will focus on the topic "Language for Scholars: Effective Tools for Advancing Student Communication Skills." The conference, which will attract speech-language pathologists, teachers and educational administrators, begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. with a complimentary lunch included in the conference fee.
