Drum Corps International to appear at ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ July 21

On Tuesday, July 21, the University of Louisiana at Monroe will host the Second Annual Battle on the Bayou at Malone Stadium, beginning at 7 p.m.

The one-night-only DCI competition will feature eight of the world’s most elite marching ensembles: Blue Devils of Concord, Calif.; Bluecoats of Canton, Ohio; Crossmen of San Antonio, Texas; Mandarins of Sacramento, Calif.; The Academy of Tempe, Ariz.; Cascades of Seattle, Wash.; Pioneer of Milwaukee, Wis.; and The Revolution of San Antonio, Texas.

ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ also has two connections to the battling bands: student Andrew Vowell from Bossier City is in his second year of marching with the Pioneer. Aaron Guidry, a ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ graduate, also writes the music for the Crossmen.

According to ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Director of Bands Derle Long, this is a wonderful way to enjoy a top-class performance, as the corps will be only two weeks from the World Championships and in top form. “This should really help motivate students to become better musicians and strive to become better leaders and performers. Malone Stadium is a perfect venue for drum corps with its concrete stands, and has great vantage points of down close to the field to feel the power of the sound, or higher up to see the visual package unfold.â€

Group sales are $12 per ticket, with a minimum group of 15 people. Individual tickets are $15 general admission and $20 for reserved chair-back seating. Tickets are available at or by calling 317-275-1212, ext. 3, for tickets.
