ĂŰ˝ŰÖ±˛Ą student group organizes book drive
The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, a student group on the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s campus, recently kicked-off a book drive to benefit the Morehouse Parish Library’s Dunbar branch in Bastrop. The drive is focused on expanding the library’s children’s books collection.
The book drive takes place through Nov. 13. Collection boxes are located around campus and include the Student Union Building’s first floor, Schulze Cafeteria, the ĂŰ˝ŰÖ±˛Ą bookstore, the ĂŰ˝ŰÖ±˛Ą Library and the Kitty DeGree Speech and Hearing Center in Sugar Hall.
The drive promotes NSSLHA’s mission to advance speech-language pathology through literacy.
“Literacy is an important aspect of the scope of practice for speech-language pathologists,” Jennifer Clark, the chapter’s national liaison, said. “But it’s also important to us to help make a difference in the community.”
Clark added that the ĂŰ˝ŰÖ±˛Ą chapter of Circle K International is collaborating with NSSLHA. “We are happy for them to join us and are hopeful that this will result in more participation throughout the campus and community,” she said.
