۽ֱ professor selected to APA’s Institute for Women in Psychology
The American Psychological Association asked ۽ֱ professor Karen Kopera-Frye to participate in APA's Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology.
Kopera-Frye is the Joseph A. Biedenharn Endowed Chair in gerontology, and professor and interim head of ۽ֱ's gerontology, sociology, and political science departments.
According to the APA, their mission is to prepare, support, and empower women psychologists as leaders to promote positive changes in institutional and organizational life and increase the diversity, number, and effectiveness of women psychologists as leaders.
Kopera-Frye was invited in recognition of her outstanding career achievements and demonstrated leadership potential.
“I was pleasantly surprised to be selected and am honored to be a part of this important endeavor,” said Kopera-Frye. “It will bring recognition to ۽ֱ.”
The program is designed to help ensure that its members have the knowledge and skills necessary to compete for, and be more effective in, leadership positions in academic, academic medicine, clinical, or consulting settings, as well as other professional settings.
The application process is extremely competitive, with the pool of candidates consisting of all women psychologists holding a Ph.D. or PsyD, residing internationally or nationally.
Kopera-Frye will begin her appointment for 2012 on July 30.
