ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Water Ski Team wins 24th national title
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Water Ski Team won their 24th national championship title at the 34th Collegiate Water Ski National Championships Oct. 18-20, at Tri-Lakes in Zachary. The ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Water Ski Team has captured the national title 24 out of the 34 years of the tournament's history.
According to , the Warhawks tallied 12,475 points in winning their national title. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette finished second, scoring 11,585 points.
The competition included 12 of the nation’s top teams in Division 1, and 11 teams in Division 2. National team champions were declared in both divisions.
Treina Landrum, ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Water Ski Team coach and director of Recreational Services, expressed the importance of her team’s dedication and competitive spirit.
"Our skiers did a great job throughout the tournament, performing well on the first day and gaining momentum with each event," said Landrum.
"The entire ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ family can be proud of these intense competitors who work hard and exemplify good sportsmanship."
The Division 1 field was comprised of competitors from ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥; the University of Louisiana at Lafayette; the University of Alabama; Arizona State University; the University of Cincinnati; Florida Southern College; Purdue University; Kansas University; Iowa State University; Miami University (Ohio); Rollins College; and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Individual medals for slalom, tricks and jumping were awarded based on athletes' placements within their division. Overall titles were awarded in each division to athletes competing in all three events.
ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥â€™s Adam Pickos won the individual men's tricks title, scoring 6,060 points. Martin Kolman of ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ finished second, and Nikita Papakul of ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ finished tied for third.
Men's Jump was won by Martin Kolman, with Siarhei Bushin placing second.
The ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ men’s team won the Team Slalom Competition by 235 points over ULL. The team also won the Team Trick Competition by 150 points over ULL. Closing out the competition, the men's team also won the team Jump Competition.
Martin Kolmanplaced first in the men's Overall Skier competition, with Nikita Papakul placing second.
The ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ women’s team won the Team Trick Competition, edging out Florida Southern College by 150 points. The women’s team placed second in the Team Jump Competition.
