ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ alum brings students to campus
Braylon Harris, (B.A. ‘10), brought 20 students and 11 parents from Boston Academy of Learning in Lake Charles to visit the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus on Sept. 28.
According to Harris—a ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Spanish graduate who is a Pharmacy Technician Instructor at the Boston Academy of Learning—he arranged the visit because he wanted his students to know about the programs and the dedicated teachers found at ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥.
The students are seniors in Harris’ Pharmacy Lab Tech class, and are participants in a pilot program, which has them finish each school day with classes in various potential career fields.
Students first visited and toured the ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ College of Pharmacy, and then took a guided tour of the campus.
They ended their visit in the ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Language Learning Center on the third floor of Brown Hall, where they were treated to pizza, and met a number of ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ students who gave them information about student organizations on campus, including the Student Government Association, Phi Alpha Theta, and Sigma Delta Pi.
Before returning to Lake Charles, students and parents visited St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, where Harris worked during his years at ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥.
Harris, who established a study abroad scholarship in ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥â€™s Department of World Languages to help others study abroad, said he wanted his students to experience university life and the various majors available to them.
At the same time, he wanted them to understand all the opportunities that are available to students within student organizations.
Harris is hoping that many of the students will return for ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥â€™s Browse on the Bayou on Nov. 17, which is a campus visitation day for high school juniors and seniors.
