How ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ is Providing CARES Act Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students
As part of the agreement ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ signed with the U.S. Department of Education, ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ pledged to use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
A total of $2,888,882 has been designated for distribution to students in the form of Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ estimates that 4,230 of its students are eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
As of June 4, 2020, ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ has awarded $1,405,500 (or 48.7% of the total) in CARES Act Emergency Financial Aid Grants to 4,120 students.
ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ is using two methods to distribute aid to students:
1.ÌýÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ provided $300 to every student eligible to receive federal student aid to cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations that couldn’t be easily documented. Beginning May 14th, $300 checks were disbursed to 4,120 students, totaling $1,236,000.
2.ÌýStudents who were eligible to receive the standard $300 award could apply for additional CARES Act support through an application process. To be considered for additional CARES Act aid, the student had to provide a statement describing their situation and need. A committee reviewed the applications and awarded students up to $750 in addition to their initial $300 aid, meaning the maximum amount that a student was able to receive is $1,050 ($750 + $300). A total of 1,297 students submitted applications for additional aid. After reviewing the first 661 applications, ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ disbursed $169,500 to 473 students on June 2nd.
The funds remaining after aid is disbursed to the last group of students will be made available to eligible students returning in the fall who had COVID-related expenses.
