La. Cancer Foundation donates $10K to ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥'s Sylvester for cancer research

MONROE, LA—ÌýThe continued their support of ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥â€™s with a $10,000 donation to support Sylvester’s breast cancer research. The donation made on November 8 marks the 17th year that the LCF has donated to Sylvester’s work, bringing the total amount donated to $170,000 over that time. Ìý

The check was presented to Sylvester by members of LCF board. The donation will help Sylvester continue his research of tocotrienols, a rare natural form of vitamin E that has displayed potent anti-cancer effects. Ìý

Sylvester, an endocrinologist, joined the ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ College of Pharmacy in 2001. He is the Associate Dean of Research and Pfizer, Inc. B.J. Robison Endowed Professor of Pharmacology.Ìý

The LCF also supports ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ with an endowed scholarship for a student who is a cancer survivor or has been impacted by cancer in their family. Established in 2019 with a $50,000 endowment, the LCF increased the scholarship by $5,000 in 2021. In the Kitty DeGree School of Nursing, the LCF has donated $30,000 to the Theresa Marsala Memorial Endowed Nursing Fund and $22,450 for oncology classes.Ìý
