۽ֱ graduates with either a Bachelor's and a Master's degree find a variety of post-graduate employment, from technical writing and grant writing to copyediting and usability experts.
With a degree in English, you have a wide range of career options, having been trained
to read, produce, and evaluate all kinds of documents from instructional manuals and
software documentation to scientific treatises, from legal briefs to poetry and graphic
novels. English students produce creative, technical, and scientific writing, practice
editing and proofreading, and interpret documents and texts. With various internship
opportunities, students in the English Program gain valuable experience that positions
them well for post-graduate employment.
Mission
The English program prepares students with skills in critical thought, problem solving, and writing; provides a scholarly environment in which faculty and majors flourish; and produces graduates who excel as scholars and professionals.
Dr. Patrick Morgan, Assistant Professor of English at the University of Louisiana Monroe, has received an ATLAS grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents. These Awards to Louisiana Artists and Scholars (ATLAS) are only given to a few scholars each year, and Morgan’s project, titled, “Geological Reformations in 19th-Century American Letters,” was awarded full funding at $39,111. The rigorous external review process determined that, out of all the proposals submitted by scholars throughout the state, Morgan’s book project was ranked first.
The "Becoming Louisiana" Reading Group is a grant project written by Dr. Jaleesa Harris and Dr. Meredith McKinnie and funded by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. On select Thursdays from September until November, ENGL 3009: Louisiana Life and Literature is an open course in which community members are invited to discuss the provided texts by Louisiana authors and learn about local nonprofits. Free books are provided to those who wish to participate.
An informal and comfortable space where writers can talk about their writing concerns with tutors who are willing to listen, share, and respond.
